This project completes a stylistic analysis of the Pela company, its mission, and its zero-waste compostable phone products. Each item in Pela’s catalog can be classified as an item of iconicity, as the product can perform a zero-waste action through its ability to be composed. The seminar paper discusses how Pela positions itself as an organization of change, and how it uses its product of iconicity to market towards a zero-waste future in the social media sphere. Though this stylistic analysis reveals that Pela is successful in marketing its company goals and vision, gaps were found in how the product of iconicity was shared with a larger eco-conscious audience. The project concludes by recommending additional marketing strategies that showcase consumers actively participating in the iconicity of the product and composting their phone cases after use.
