A Heartfelt Thank You

The Mary Jane Harlow Scholarship Fund was established to provide partial tuition for students in the charter class of the NSU Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine (NSU MD).

Nuverah Mohsin, a fourth-year student, is one of the recipients of the scholarship. Born in Miami, Florida, and raised in Panama City, Mohsin earned her bachelor’s degree in biomathematics at Florida State University. She decided to apply to NSU MD because of its mission to produce physicians who can lead through the many challenges health professionals face in today’s society.

During her undergraduate studies, Mohsin volunteered to help as many people as she could, including infants at an Early Head Start program, homeless individuals within the community, patients and medical professionals in the emergency department of a local hospital, and refugees seeking better opportunities.

At the start of her NSU education, Mohsin was interested in pediatrics. She was also interested in exploring other opportunities in medicine and has been able to do so at the university.

After two summers at Moffitt Cancer Center participating in projects that used math modeling to study tumor response to radiation therapy, Mohsin settled on a new career path. Her experience increased her interest in radiation oncology, and she plans to apply to a residency in that field.

“My ambition is to serve as an outstanding physician, lifelong learner, teacher, and activist in my community,” Mohsin said. “Thank you to the Mary Jane Harlow Charitable Trust for investing in my future and being a source of support throughout this wonderful educational experience.”
