Accessible Art for All

NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale is a member of Museums for All, a national access program that encourages individuals of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum habits.

“We are thrilled to participate in Museums for All and provide increased accessibility to the museum,” said Bonnie Clearwater, M.A., director and chief curator. “The initiative’s goal to provide increased access to museums, art, and history perfectly aligns with NSU Art Museum’s goal of enriching and connecting the community through art. We cannot wait to welcome more visitors than ever and ensure accessibility to all regardless of a financial barrier.”

Through this program, those receiving food assistance (SNAP benefits) can gain free or reduced admission to more than 700 museums throughout the United States simply by presenting their SNAP EBT (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Electronic Benefit Transfer) card.

“The day after we joined this program, we had two young individuals come in and visit the museum free of charge,” said Rhonda Ritchie, senior director of advancement. “We have since had several others. We are committed to making the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale accessible to all. Art is for everyone—all ages and interests.”

NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale also provides free admission to NSU students and faculty and staff members through You Belong. To activate membership, simply complete the online form at nsuartmuseum.org/youbelong.

Since the initiative’s launch in 2014–2015, Museums for All has served more than three million visitors nationwide at more than 700 museums.
