Applied Behavior Analysis and Child Life Programs

In Fall 2021, the Abraham S. Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice launched the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Fellowship program at the Baudhuin Preschool. This fellowship program allows selected fellows from the College of Psychology and the Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice to complete ABA coursework to accrue hours towards ABA certification and immediately bridge theory to practice. This increased knowledge in the application of behavior analysis to education is a benefit for our Baudhuin Preschool students but also highlights the collaboration between the College of Psychology and the Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice.

The Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice (FCE-SCJ) sought pre-approval status for the graduate concentration in Child Life from the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP). On September 14, 2021, the Master of Science in Developmental Disabilities with a concentration in Child Life program was awarded full pre-approval by the ACLP. This means that completers of our graduate concentration in Child Life will meet the coursework requirements for Child Life Specialist (CLS) certification. Our continued commitment to developing quality practitioners led FCE-SCJ to establish an undergraduate concentration in Child Life. The Bachelor of Science in Child Development with a concentration in Child Life received pre-approval from the ACLP on June 1, 2022. Our graduate and undergraduate pre-approved coursework effectively prepare our students to provide support to ease emotional trauma, decrease stress and anxiety, and increase the health-related education of children and their families.
