Baudhuin Preschool, The Academy, & Starting Right Preschool Programs
Nova Southeastern University (NSU) and the School Board of Broward County have renewed the public agreement that allows public students to attend the Baudhuin Preschool. Thanks to the partnership between the parties, the Baudhuin Preschool and the Academy are already at capacity for the 2024-2025 school year.
The Starting Right program continues to serve children under the age of three. The number of families interested in the program has increased and, thanks to our donors, we have been able to offer scholarships to families in need of assistance. Furthermore, the conversion of the classroom next door to the program into an indoor gym is completed, and the students are not only benefiting from it but also enjoying it tremendously.
Another collaboration that remains strong is the one between the Baudhuin Preschool and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA). This year, BCPA brought to life, in the school’s gym, the tale of the Ugly Duckling. Additionally, free tickets for sensory inclusive performances at the BCPA have been shared with Baudhuin Preschool families.
This year, the Baudhuin Preschool has established yet another alliance. This time, the partnership is between the school and the committee of an antique car show who shares a percentage of their proceedings with institutions devoted to working with individuals with autism. Last February, the committee held their show at NSU (Boca@Nova), and the Baudhuin Preschool support staff members represented the school, sharing their expertise and bringing awareness of our programs to everyone who visited our pavilion. We are grateful to Dr. Edward Dauer and Mr. Russell Glace for their collaboration and commitment to supporting our autism program.
The Baudhuin Preschool, the Academy, and the Starting Right program remain focused on their mission to prepare the future generation of professionals to work with individuals on the spectrum. Once again, during the academic school year, physical therapy students, supervised by their professor, oversaw the Young Athletes Program, which took place once a week at the school’s gym. Moreover, students from the NSU College of Dental Medicine led small group instruction centers in our classrooms, exposing our students to proper oral hygiene in a fun and nurturing manner. Finally, doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate students in a range of disciplines (Education, Human Services, Child Development, Applied Behavior Analysis, Speech-Language Pathology, Osteopathic Medicine, Dental Medicine, Counseling, and Physical Therapy), after undergoing a selection process, completed their practicum experiences and internships in one of our programs.
We remain committed to our mission and high standards. A sign of that is our pride in continuing to hold certification by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and a Gold Seal Quality Care Program award by the Florida Department of Education Division of Early Learning.
