The Child Care Training Program

The Child Care Training Program, operating under the Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice, continues to serve as the Broward County Training Coordinating Agency (TCA) for the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF). The program is dedicated to supporting early care and education professionals by offering comprehensive, high-quality training and exam opportunities. Through responsive programming and strong community engagement, the Child Care Training Program plays a vital role in strengthening the early childhood workforce in South Florida.

Trauma-Informed Care Training for Directors
The program continues to offer the Trauma-Informed Care Training for Directors (TICD) course, a multi-session professional development experience designed to equip directors with the tools to support children who have experienced trauma. This training emphasizes emotional well-being, environmental support, and staff self-care as key pillars of trauma-informed care.
Eligible participants may apply for a T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® Scholarship, which covers the full cost of the course and supports continued leadership development in the field.
Expanded Testing Availability and New Language Access
To meet the needs of an increasingly diverse and growing workforce, the program has expanded both its testing schedule and language offerings:
- Two weekday exam sessions per week for added flexibility
- Two Saturday exam sessions per month, ideal for working professionals
- Now offering the 40-hour competency exam in Haitian Creole, alongside English and Spanish
This expansion ensures broader access for the Haitian Creole-speaking community, making it easier for more early care educators to fulfill Florida’s licensing and training requirements.
Commitment to Quality
These updates reflect the program’s continued mission to foster excellence and equity in early childhood education. Whether by removing language barriers, extending exam availability, or offering advanced training opportunities for directors, the Child Care Training Program remains at the forefront of supporting a highly qualified, well-prepared workforce.
By investing in those who care for young children, the program helps ensure stronger outcomes for children, families, and communities throughout Broward and Miami-Dade Counties.
