We all are experiencing a great deal of uncertainty as we respond to the evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. I want to thank Dr. Hanbury, his advisory team, our faculty and students and the entire NSU community for their leadership, support, resilience, and adaptability. We will continue to monitor this situation and want to make certain that everyone is informed as we depart from our normal routines and make necessary adjustments to mitigate the spread of COVID-9.
Out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with Dr. Hanbury’s announcement today, all classes, examinations, laboratories, and campus events have been suspended until March 23, 2020. On March 23, 2020, the entire academic curriculum will be placed on-line through at least April 17, 2020. A plan regarding how we will address the curriculum, student affairs and admissions, faculty and colleagues, and accreditation has been developed.
In addition to the details in the plan, we are asking our community to implement social distancing measures wherever and whenever possible. Examples of social distancing include leaving six feet between individuals in meeting spaces, avoiding large gatherings and limiting direct contact with others.
We know that the risk of spreading the virus can be controlled by self-quarantine, so for those members of our community who are returning from travel, we want to remind you of the CDC Level 3 travel restrictions and guidelines. All students, faculty, and staff returning from these areas are advised to stay home for 14 days after returning from travel, monitor their health, and practice social distancing.
We will continue to keep you informed of the university’s response to this situation as well as our college’s implementation plans. I recommend everyone stay current with the university’s information channels – email, website, and social media as things continue to evolve. I also urge all of you to take care of your health, keep a positive attitude, and be mindful of the most vulnerable in our community.
Times like these remind me of why we’re here. We are innovators, leaders, and committed to providing excellent healthcare for all. You have an unprecedented opportunity to positively impact our community. Be strong. Be safe. Be NSU MD.
