In a September 13, 2023 Wall Street Journal article authored by Scott Hodge (Senior Policy Advisor at the Tax Foundation) titled “Credit Unions Stray Far From Their Mission”, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Maskara and Dr. Florence Neymotin had two articles cited that explained what Credit Unions are actually doing right now. The first of their articles, “Do Credit Unions Serve the Underserved?”, was published in the Eastern Economic Journal and they determined that underserved households are less likely to use credit unions compared to traditional banks. The second article was published in Applied Economics Letters and was titled “Credit Unions during the Crisis: Did They Provide Liquidity?”. In this study, they determined that credit unions in the US did not help increase liquidity during a financial crisis. It is a great accomplishment to be cited so prominently in a Wall Street Journal article for academic research.
Pallavi Awasthi, Ph.D.

Dr. Pallavi Awasthi’s research focuses on local government leadership, particularly leadership in digital innovation, strategic performance management, and sustainability practices in local governments. She has recently received the prestigious IBM Center for Business in Government funding for her research titled “Leadership for Implementing Agile Principles in Local Governments: Lessons and Best Practices for Government Leaders” on exploring leadership practices for Agile implementation in local governments. This study documents case studies of leaders and their teams that successfully executed digital innovation using Agile strategies in local governments. One of her recent articles titled “Antecedents and consequences of servant leadership in local governance: Evidence from three case studies”, was the first empirical study in U.S. local governments on servant leadership and was published in the Journal of Public Administration Review, which consistently ranks among the top three journals in public administration. The study highlights that the city and county administrators that identify as servant leaders pursue an overarching mission of ensuring community well-being and prosperity and are highly effective in managing both internal (employees, elected officials) and external (private firms, nonprofits, and community partners) stakeholders. While acting as servant leaders, they utilize skills such as negotiation, empathy, genuine concern for people, empowering stakeholders, and understanding organizational challenges and mission.
Dario Bonaretti, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems
Dr. Bonaretti’s research focuses on the effective use of technology for emergency management and communication, and the measurement and methods in research involving human subjects. Dr. Bonaretti is considered an expert in his field and his interdisciplinary research has been published in top academic journals including Business & Information Systems Engineering, International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, and Information & Management. As a recognized scholar, he is regularly invited to review submissions to leading conferences such as International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), European Conference of Information Systems (ECIS), and Academy of Management (AOM). His successful collaboration with researchers from various disciplines contributes to furthering NSU’s research objectives and excellence.

Kershen Huang, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Finance
Dr. Huang’s research interest lies primarily in empirical corporate, with a current focus on the interactions between investor heterogeneity, externalities, and firm policies, as well as their relations with agency issues and capital prices. His studies have been published in Management Science, Financial Management, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Futures Markets, and Quarterly Journal of Finance. He serves on the editorial advisory board of the Review of Accounting and Finance and is an ad hoc reviewer for more than 25 ABDC/ABS ranked business academic journals. His work is frequently showcased at internationally reputable conferences; his latest completed working paper, “Does Geopolitical Risk Affect Firms’ Leasing Policy?” is scheduled for presentation at the 2023 FMA Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL.
