Center for Applied Humanities Cuts the Ribbon on Their New Space

The Center for Applied Humanities is a public-facing entity housed in the Department of Humanities and Politics in the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences.  Its mission is to promote the ways that perspectives from the humanities may be used to further positive change and public good.  The Center sponsors a variety of public programming: a Hispanic Heritage Month annual event series; a Banned Book discussion series; and a faculty applied humanities research series, to name a few.  We also host a student humanities conference each spring and host the IN-SIGHT undergraduate student think tank program, wherein businesses or community organizations sponsor fellowships for select high-achieving humanities students to research and offer solutions to particular organizational problems.

The ribbon cutting event that was held on September 19th was very significant, as it represented a celebration of the generous donation of Dr. Charles Vogel that helped make possible for the first time, dedicated physical space for the Center, and the unveiling of the Vogel African art and artifact exhibit.  The Center’s new space is located in the Alvin Sherman Library, 2048 and would not have been possible without the ongoing support of James Hutchens, Vice-President of Information Services and University Libraries.
