The Office of Procurement: ISM Trailblazer Award and Publication on Psychological Drivers of Fraud

The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) handed out their 2nd Annual Supply Chain Trailblazer awards in 2023 and NSU’s Office of Procurement Services (OPS) earned the Diversity Trailblazer award. Diversity Champions are leaders in advancing diversity within its company and the profession, and the impact this has made on its talent base and/or supply base/partners.

NSU’s OPS faced challenges in engaging a diverse supplier base due to factors like limited visibility of diverse vendors in the market. To overcome this, OPS implemented a comprehensive approach involving establishing partnerships with diverse supplier organizations (training, expanding supplier base, participating in diverse vendor conferences), while also simultaneously creating a dedicated quality improvement plan to formulate and execute strategies for boosting diverse supplier involvement in sourcing activities.

The judges stated, “Impressive transformative diversity program for a relatively small procurement team.”

Additionally, Lenora Sevillian MBA, CIPP, CPPP, CPCM, Director of Procurement, recently published an article titled, “The Psychological Drivers of Procurement Fraud” in Inside Supply Management Magazine. The article centers on taking a deeper dive into psychological drivers of fraud to help design effective preventative measures.
