Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice Launches Inaugural Faculty Research Fellowship Program

The Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice is proud to announce the launch of its inaugural Faculty Research Fellowship Program—an exciting initiative designed to expand the College’s research capacity and cultivate new faculty scholars. This innovative program supports faculty who are new to research by providing structured support and dedicated time to pursue impactful scholarly projects.

Funded through the College’s internal budget, selected fellows receive a course release and research budget to focus on research in education, human services, criminal justice, or related disciplines. The Fellowship aligns with NSU’s strategic goal of advancing as an R1-level research institution, and reflects Fischler College’s commitment to fostering a vibrant, research-engaged academic community.

The first awardee of the Fellowship is Dr. Melinda Coleman, who will be leading a project titled “Leadership in Action: Enhancing Decision Making through Simulated Experiences.” Dr. Coleman will collaborate with Dr. Laura Cohen, Director of the School Counseling Concentration in NSU’s College of Psychology, to bring this interdisciplinary initiative to life.

Three additional faculty proposals are currently under review, with the College aiming to fund more projects in the coming months. The Fellowship program represents a significant step forward in empowering faculty to contribute to the growing body of research that drives innovation and impact across disciplines.
