The fall semester is underway at NSU, and the campus is teeming with students, events, and excitement. We hope that donors and alumni engage with the university during this season—attend a game or meet to cheer on NSU’s student athletes; participate in a charity walk, speaker series, or art exhibit held on campus; or join us for an upcoming celebration to recognize donors and alumni of the Shark family.
When visiting campus for any of these events, please know that your safety is paramount to NSU. In a recent issue of The Current, the student-run newspaper, President Hanbury wrote, “. . . it is my belief that the single best way to keep our community safe is to not permit weapons of any kind in any of our properties or spaces unless they are carried by a trained law enforcement officer.” He also provided readers with the protocols and systems that NSU has in place to keep students, faculty and staff members, and visitors safe. Food insecurity is another issue that affects NSU students. With the help of donors, the university established the Shark Food Pantry in 2021. To date, the pantry has had approximately 6,000 visits, and we want to keep the pantry stocked to ensure no Shark goes hungry. You can support the effort with a donation to help us maintain and expand this vital resource.

Earlier this month, President Hanbury and the Board of Trustees announced the succession plan for the NSU presidency. Hanbury’s term as the sixth president of the university will end on January 1, 2025. His leadership and vision for the university are encapsulated in the Campaign for Preeminence, and we continue to strive to reach the $1 billion mark before his retirement. Harry K. Moon, M.D., executive vice president and chief operating officer, was unanimously chosen to succeed President Hanbury.
In this issue of Donor Connection, we talk with director of athletics and associate vice president for advancement, Mike Mominey, about the 40th anniversary of NSU Athletics, the success Sharks experienced last year, and what is on the horizon for the department. We also share student and donor scholarship stories and explore experiential learning at NSU University School.

I would love to see the University acknowledge their theater and PVA students. They too work hard and have dreams.
Thank you for the feedback, we greatly appreciate it!
