As an aspiring entrepreneur, Eva Ducanis wants to build a business that teaches others how to be responsible with money.

In high school, she was organizing financial literacy workshops for middle and high school students. She built a business model and taught piano lessons to students for a weekly fee. More recently, she presented a lecture titled, “Money Management for Teens,” to youth audiences in Broward County.

Now an accounting major at NSU’s H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship, Ducanis is pursuing her goal with help from the David Povlitz and Terry Mollica Aspiring Entrepreneur Scholarship.

David Povlitz and Terry Mollica are the founders and retired owners of Anago Cleaning Systems, a leading domestic and international commercial cleaning franchise. Povlitz’s son, Adam, is the current CEO and president of Anago.

Adam Povlitz also serves as a volunteer mentor at the Executives and Entrepreneurs in Residence Program at NSU’s H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship.

“As a student, I am passionate about learning business so I can help others develop responsible financial habits,” said Ducanis, a freshman with a minor in entrepreneurship. “When I graduate, I hope to open my own financial consulting firm–focusing on families and small businesses.

“Getting an education at NSU bridges that gap between passion and expertise,” she said. “Because of this scholarship, I can pursue my degree in accounting, obtain my CPA certification, and make my goals a reality. I am truly grateful to David and Adam Povlitz and Terry Mollica for their support of students like myself, the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.”

At NSU, Ducanis is gaining a competitive advantage in her future career and the community as a member of the Farquhar Honors College and a participant in the Razor’s Edge Shark Cage Scholars Program. She plans to network with successful entrepreneurs, create an on-campus business, and develop the expertise to start a financial planning business and dominate in her field.

“Entrepreneurs demonstrate certain grit and persistence despite challenges. In the same way, I find ways to challenge myself both academically and beyond the classroom,” Ducanis said.
