NSU is one of the higher education institutions in the inaugural class of Carnegie Classification as an Opportunity College and University. The designation recognizes institutions that foster student success by examining whether they enroll students who reflect their communities and whether graduates go on to earn competitive wages compared to peers in their area. In addition, NSU is one of only 41 U.S. institutions to receive the designation of a Professions-focused Undergraduate/Graduate-Doctorate Large institution.
We are honored and excited by the recognitions from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Council on Education.
Did You Know?
- In honor of May being Mental Health Awareness month, the NSU College of Psychology released the webinar, From Worry to Wellness: Helping Children Manage Anxiety. Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in the United States since 1949, when it was established by Mental Health America to raise awareness, promote education, and advocate for better mental health care and support. NSU runs a state-of-the-art Psychology Services Center that serves all residents of the South Florida area. If you or a loved one is struggling or in need of support, NSU Health staff and student clinicians are available.
- NSU has mastered a way to mimic every stage of a coral’s development—from sperm and egg development to corals mature enough to be planted. Recreating these life stages is no simple task, but coral is crucial to survival of the world’s reefs, which protect coastlines from storms and erosion, create recreational and tourism opportunities, and provide a source of food and new medicines. To share this knowledge, NSU coral research professors recently offered a workshop on coral propagation.
- NSU student-athletes continue to elevate academic success, achieving the department’s highest winter semester grade-point average to date. Fins Up!
- NSU claimed the inaugural “County-Line Cup“, over rival Barry University. The Sharks outscored the Buccaneers 11 to 6. The rivalry was instituted at the beginning of the 2024-25 athletic year, with points being awarded based on victories in either head-to-head competition or results at the Sunshine State Conference Championships.
In this issue of the Donor Connection, we highlight the innovative research being conducted at NSU, spotlight an initiative designed to encourage high-achieving students on their journey to a law degree, and feature the commencement festivities for the Class of 2025.
We are also celebrating the conclusion of our Campaign for Preeminence. Launched in 2020 with a goal of raising a total of $1 billion before the end of 2025, we are thrilled to announce that we have surpassed that goal. Your continued support and belief in our mission led us to this remarkable achievement. Stay tuned for what comes next.
