Dr. Yair Levy is a Professor of Information Systems and Cybersecurity at the College of Computing and Engineering (CCE), at Nova Southeastern University(NSU), the Director of the Center for Information Protection, Education, and Research (CIPhER), and chair of the Cybersecurity Curriculum Committee at the college overseeing the Ph.D. program in Cybersecurity Management, MS in Cybersecurity Management (InfoSec Policy Development and Compliance), and MS in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity (Network Security Engineering)NSA designated programs as part of NSU’s designation of National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) and Cyber Research (CAE-R). He joined the college as an Assistant Professor in 2003, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2007, and was promoted again to full Professor in 2012. In November 2015, he was named Professor of the Year for 2014-2015 and in 2020, 2021, and 2022, was awarded the NSU Provost’s External Funding Recognitions. Prior to joining the college, Dr. Levy was an instructor at the Department of Decision Science and Information Systems (DSIS) and the Director of Online Learning at the College of Business Administration, Florida International University. During the mid to late 1990s, Dr. Levy assisted NASA in developing e-learning platforms as well as managing Internet and Web infrastructures. He earned his undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering with honors from the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology). He received his Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a Management Information Systems (MIS) concentration and Ph.D. in MIS from Florida International University.

He heads the Levy CyLab research group, which conducts innovative research from the human-factor lens of cybersecurity including social engineering, cybersecurity risk mitigation, supply chain cybersecurity, and user authentication. During his tenure at NSU, he graduated 57 Ph.D.s in Information Systems, Information Assurance (until 2018), and Cybersecurity Management (since 2018). His research publications were cited over 8,700 times, which appeared in peer-reviewed journals and in refereed conference proceedings. Additionally, he published an invited book and encyclopedia chapters. Dr. Levy is the recipient of the IJICTE 1(3) Editor’s Award of Excellence for his research study, the recipient of the Best Paper Award in numerous scientific conferences. He served as the executive chair of the technical program/proceedings committee for the IEEE SoutheastCon 2005 conference and a co-chair of the Information Systems track. In 2015, he chaired the technical program and proceedings committee for the IEEE SoutheastCon 2015 conference overseeing 170 peer-reviewed papers and 24 posters. Dr. Levy was the Editor-in-Chief of the Proceedings Books for the IEEE SoutheastCon 2005 and 2015 Conferences. He served as the co-chair of the Workshop on Information Security and Privacy (WISP) in 2012 and 2015 – at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS). Additionally, Dr. Levy chaired and co-chaired multiple sessions/tracks of his research area at recognized scientific conferences. Between 2006 and 2011, Dr. Levy was serving as the founding Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Doctoral Studies (IJDS). Dr. Levy is regularly serving as a reviewer for the premiere journals of Computers & Security (CoSe)Information and Computer Security (ICS), International Journal of Information Systems in the Service Sector (IJISSS)Sage Open, and Journal of Organizational and End User Computing (JOEUC). He has been serving as a Senior Editor for the Online Journal of Applied Knowledge Management (OJAKM). Additionally, he is serving on the Editorial Review Board of the newly created Organizational Cybersecurity Journal. Dr. Levy is a founding member of the International Institute for Applied Knowledge Management (IIAKM), from which he was recognized as a ‘Fellow and Distinguished Scholar‘ in 2013, as well as the Recipient of ‘Lifetime Academic Achievement Award‘ from IIAKM in 2014. Since August 2015, he is serving as the President and Executive Director of IIAKM. He is serving as an associate editor for the Information Security Education Journal (ISEJ), Journal of Computer Information Systems (JCIS), and the ‘Security and Privacy of Information and IS’ track in the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS). He is an IEEE Senior Member, and a member of the IEEE Cybersecurity Initiative. In 2015, he was elected President of the AIS’s Special Interest Group on Information Security and Privacy (SIGSEC) and has served from 2017-2019 as AIS’s SIGSEC Treasurer. Additionally, between 2015 and 2017, he was a member of the Joint IEEE/ACM/IEEE/AIS SIGSEC/IFIP Task Force on Cybersecurity Curricular Guideline (CSEC2017) which also provided the foundation for ABET’s cybersecurity accreditation. Also, Dr. Levy has been serving as a member of the conference proceedings committee for numerous scholarly conferences. Moreover, he has been serving as a referee research reviewer for hundreds of national and international scientific journals, conference proceedings, as well as IS and cybersecurity textbooks. He also regularly contributes to the scientific community by serving as an external tenure and promotion (T&P) package reviewer for national and international scholars.

In 2015, Dr. Levy was trained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) – Miami Division on various topics and actively serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the FBI’s InfraGard South Florida Chapter – and serves as Education Sector Chief and a member of the FBI Miami Citizens Academy Alumni Association. He has been an active member of the US Secret Service (USSS)’s – Miami Electronic Crimes Task Force (MECTF) and Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)’s South Florida Cybercrime Working Group (SFCWG). Dr. Levy consults federal agencies, state, and local government groups on cybersecurity topics. He is also a frequently invited keynote/guest speaker at national and international meetings, as well as regular media interviews as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on cybersecurity topics.

Dr. Levy’s teaching at the Master’s level includes ISEC615 – Fundamentals of Cybersecurity and ISEC690/695 – Information Security (Management) Project. At the Doctoral level, he teaches the ISEC700 – Doctoral Seminar in Cybersecurity Management, ISEC765 – Information Security Risk Management, RESD720 – Advanced Multivariate Research Methods and Statistics, and the Doctoral Dissertation Research Seminars in Cybersecurity Management (ISEC885) along with supervising doctoral students and serving on dissertation committees. On a personal note, Dr. Levy lives in Miami with his wife and their amazing Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
