What is Six Sigma?

OIIT’s goal is to deploy Business Analysis (BA) and Six Sigma across OIIT Projects, provide incremental business value through the application of a “structured” process evaluation to specific business problems and new technology, while bridging all impacted parties, advocating for their needs, and delivering what is promised.

Lean Six Sigma will be integrated into the fabric of OIIT projects through business analysis, resulting in a standardized approach for problem-solving, fact-based decision making, and a process driven culture within the applications implemented.

Six Sigma is a method that provides organizations tools to improve the capability of their business processes.

This increase in performance and decrease in process variation helps lead to defect reduction and improvement in profits, employee morale, and quality of products or services.

Tips and Tricks

1NSU Wireless vs Guest Network

1NSU Wireless vs Guest Network

It has been brought to our attention that some students are having difficulty connecting to or using our wireless network. Did you know that using the 1NSU network is the most effective and efficient way to connect on our campuses?

Click on the link below for instructions on how to connect your devices to the NSU wireless network.

NSU’s wireless network provides high-speed Internet access and state-of-the-art security features throughout the Fort Lauderdale/Davie Campus and the Regional Campuses. NSU provides two independent wireless networks:

  • 1NSU
  • Guest

– 1NSU is the recommended, encrypted wireless network for faculty, staff, and students.

– Guest is the recommended, unencrypted wireless network for visitors/guests. This network is not intended for University business (Faculty, staff, and students should not use Guest).

– Students in the residence halls can connect their game consoles and streaming media devices to the “NSU” wireless network by registering the wireless mac address.

Are you still having issues connecting?

Please contact our Shark IT Team by calling 954-262-4357.

Thank you,
Office of Innovation and Information Technology

OIIT Year in Review

OIIT Year in Review

The past 18 months have been some of the most interesting and challenging that we have collectively faced here in OIIT. Our teams have been working hard to support our students, faculty, and staff members through the pandemic to maintain stability and flexibility of learning across NSU.

We wanted to highlight some of the important initiatives that we have completed during this time frame. We also want to thank the many collaborators from across the university that have helped us implement and test these applications and services through the pandemic as well. We strongly believe that we could not have been able to accomplish all of this without the help of each college and academic business unit working together with us.

Portfolio Overview

Here are some of the high-level statistics we pulled from the OIIT portfolio:

  • We completed 120 projects between 4/1/2020 – 7/16/2021
  • The COVID-19 pandemic accounted for 7 major unplanned projects within our Portfolio last year
  • We implemented Audio Visual (AV) components within 700+ educational spaces to facilitate a paradigm shift to a BlendFlex course delivery model offering simultaneous face-to-face, videoconferencing, online and hybrid student experiences.

OIIT Website Refresh

As of Thursday September 16, 2021 we are relaunching the OIIT website. We have worked hard to consolidate several sections into a more focused experience for students, faculty and staff members.

You will notice several improvements including:

  1. New Website Design – We have begun to apply the new NSU website design to our website. You will currently find this applied to our higher-level pages. We will continue to move through the rest of our site post launch to complete the application of this new look and feel.
  2. Updated Navigation – along with this new website design we have included a refined navigation that focuses down the experience into the most used areas of our previous site. The new look and feel of navigation were also applied from the new templates.
  3. OIIT Newsletter integration – we have integrated the OIIT Newsletter news so you can see the latest posts right from our website as well. We encourage you to visit our newsletter for more information on the latest projects from across the teams.
  4. Updated Project Initiation & Support Page – We wanted to provide you with a better breakdown of our New Application Request Process as well as access to the other support queues that you have come to know. We are in the progress of transitioning all of our support forms over to ServiceNow forms as they are easier to use and more intelligent than the current implementation. We will be sending out more communications on this transition as we move forward.
  5. Initiatives and Application Standards Directories – We have created filterable directories for you to use and search for the latest initiatives OIIT is undertaking each fiscal year as well as a full list of all the approved applications that are supported as OIIT application standards. We encourage all colleges and units to review these lists before submitting a new application request as we may already have something that can save you time and money.

Keep your eyes out for more improvements that we will be making to the website in the coming months. We are excited to be launching these and we hope that they provide you with a better experience.
