From the Baseline to the Front Lines

On behalf of the entire NSU community, thank you to these Shark Athlete alums for your service during this pandemic.

Ashley Baker, B.S. ’08, D.O. ’14

A member of the NSU softball team from 2006-2008, Ashley is the owner of Bright Side Eyecare in West Palm Beach, Florida. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from NSU and returned to the university to complete the doctor of optometry program.

 

Dana Bergner, B.S. ’10, B.S.N. ’16

Dana is very much on the front lines these days as a registered nurse working in the emergency room at Memorial Regional Hospital. She graduated from the NSU Nursing Program in 2016, and prior to that, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the university.

 

Erika (Garcia) Cann, B.S.’15

Erika is a registered nurse at Atrium Health Cabarrus in North Carolina. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from NSU and played on the softball team from 2012-2014.

 

Noemi (Luciani) Couto, B.S. ’10, B.S.N. ’12

Noemi played softball for NSU all four years of her undergraduate career, earning her bachelor’s degree in psychology. She returned to NSU to attend nursing school and currently works as a labor and delivery nurse at Memorial Regional Hospital.

 

Sara DeMuth, B.S. ’12, M.S. ’15

Currently serving as a certified anesthesiologist assistant at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Sara played softball for NSU from 2010 to 2012. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biology at NSU and went on to earn a master’s degree in anesthesia.

 

Lexi (Sarradet) Folgueira, B.S. ’11, B.S.N. ’15

Now a registered nurse at South Miami Hospital Baptist Health South Florida, Lexi was a four-year member of the NSU softball team. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and also graduated from NSU’s nursing program.

 

Patty (Rivero) Lopez, B.S. ’10

Patty graduated from NSU with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She currently serves as a medical assistant at a dermatologist’s office and is working towards a degree in nursing. Patty was a member of the NSU softball team from 2008 to 2010.

 

Melanie (Spicola) Monkman, B.S. ’14

Melanie is in the process of finishing her last semester of physical therapy school, and although her clinical rotation was cut short due to the impact of COVID-19, she continued to provide treatment as long a possible. She was a member of the softball team from 2010-2014 when she graduated from NSU with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science.

 

Katie Pepper, B.S. ’09

An ER nurse, Katie recently took a traveling assignment to help on the front lines in California. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology at NSU, playing all four years on the softball team from 205-2009.

 

Jenny Ridenoure, B.S. ’02, B.S. ’05, MMSc ’05

Now a faculty member for NSU’s physician assistant program, Jenny also works as physician assistant in internal medicine. She earned her bachelor’s degree from NSU, as well as a master’s degree in medical science. She was a member of the softball team from 1998-2002.

 

Dani (Caron) Tatum, B.S. ’10

Dani played softball at NSU from 2006-2010, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She is now a registered nurse working in the post-anesthesia care unit of an outpatient orthopedic surgery center in Woodstock, Georgia.

 

Laura (Saladrigas) Taylor, B.S. ’13, Pharm.D. ’17

Laura is a clinical pharmacist at Delray Medical Center. She earned both her bachelor’s degree in biology and her doctorate of pharmacy from NSU. Laura was a member of the NSU softball team from 2009-2013.
