ASQ Announces Update To Black Belt Examination

Beginning September 2022, The American Society for Quality (ASQ) will have an updated Body of Knowledge (Bok) for it’s Certified Six Sigma Black Belt exam. While there is some concern on just how much of the CSSBB exam has changed, the ASQ has announced the changes are relatively minor and are more a reflection of “state of practice” versus “state of art”.

Changes to the ASQ CSSBB Body of Knowledge (BoK)

Using the results of a Six Sigma job analysis survey the ASQ found most of the topics in the 2015 BoK are still relevant today. Notable changes include splitting two sub-topics into smaller sub-topics, adding two new subtopics, and alternating the name of several subtexts.

As for questions on the exam, new and returning test takers will see the changes below with additional questions to the organizational process management and control sections and a reduction of questions in team management and design for six sigma.

Applicants can apply for the new testing window now at the ASQ CSSBB page. Applicants must meet all pre-requisites for the exam including the completion of 1-2 Six Sigma Black Belt projects via the program affidavits.

For detailed information on changes to the Six Sigma BoK please visit the official release page on the ASQ website.
